13 1/2" x 10 1/2" watercolor of "Little Beaver," a cartoon character in both cartoons and movies in the Red Ryder series developed by Fred Harman. Red Ryder became the longest-running and most popular comic character of the Western genre in movies, radio, comic strips, comic books, mass market retailing, and the collectors' market. Today, Red Ryder has some of the longest business relationships in the history of the licensing industry. The cartoon strip ran from 1938 until 1965. This watercolor is framed to 18 1/2" x 15 1/2." The picture is inscribed at the top in Harman's hand : "Me plenty glad you like-um me, Hugh Gordon! Me like-um you too, you betchum !" It is also inscribed at the bottom right corner : "Here's Happy Ridin' on a long trail, Hugh. Fred Harman, Red Ryder." Provenance: Fred Harman Museum. Fine copy.
