First edition. 8vo. Decorated green cloth, gold stamping on front cover, yellow endpapers, 219 pp., frontis., [portrait], preface, plates. A Texas and outlaw rarity. Lafferty came to Texas during the days of the Republic and fought as a volunteer during several periods of revolution from 1818 to 1832. On Galveston Island he met and conferred with the pirate Lafitte, later he joined General Long's Expedition to Texas, paid a second visit to Galveston and was sent with dispatches to Captain Johnson on the Brazos, and was captured, from which he eventually escaped.
