First edition. Signed by the author. Fine in dust jacket with a wraparound naval design. This is the first in an eleven book series to feature Thomas Paine Kydd, a young wig-maker from Guildford. The year is 1793 and while sitting in the local tavern, a shout is heard. Kydd rises and attempts to make his way toward the exit but is grabbed, along with several other men, tossed into the hold of a ship and is now a pressed sailor for His Majesty's Navy as part of the crew of the 98-gun line-of-battle ship Royal William. Kydd knows absolutely nothing about life at sea and experiences his first voyage from the lower decks.
