First edition. Cloth, 336pp., illustrations, bibliography, index. Joe Meek first came to the Rocky Mountains in 1829, at the age of 18, with a trapping expedition led by William Sublette. Meek spent 11 years trapping the Rocky Mountains. He took part in the celebrated Battle of Pierre's Hole in 1832 and accompanied Joe Walker on his famous expedition into California in 1833 and 1834. He also took part in the last great rendezvous of the Rocky Mountains Fur Co. at Ham's Fork of the Green River in 1834. Meek continued to trap and guide throughout the Rocky Mountains until he finally settled in Oregon in 1840. The author presents an excellent well-written biography of this important mountain man and pioneer settler of Oregon. A fine, bright copy in a dust jacket with occasional light edgewear and very minor chipping to spine ends.
