Publication: The Old West Pub Co, 1960, Denver
First edition. Cloth, 304pp. Num. illus. from old photos. An excellent account of the western frontier life of Andrew and Elizabeth Burt. Coming west in 1866, this young officer was the last to command the dangerous Fort C.F. Smith, in Montana Territory. This work provides the first complete history of this famous fort. Events following the Fetterman Massacre, and leading up to the bloody Hayfield Fight are recorded for the first time. Major Burt was also stationed at Ft. Laramie during the peak of the Sioux Wars, 1874-1876. Mrs. Burt accompanied her husband throughout his military service and her memoirs relate much about their experiences. Fine in lightly rubbed dust jacket. Signed by Mattes. Original Prospectus laid-in.
