First edition. 8vo. Signed by the author. Red cloth, gold stamping on spine, 415 pp., frontis., preface, illustrated, maps, bibliography, index. The forcible uprooting and expulsion of the 60,000 Indians comprising the Five Civilized Tribes, including the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, Cherokee, and Seminole, unfolded a story that was unparalleled in the history of the United States. The tribes were relocated to Oklahoma and there were chroniclers to record the events and tragedy along the "Trail of Tears." Front and rear hinges are becoming loose, three small check marks in red ink by former owner at the list of illustrations, light foxing to fore-edges, moderate wear to front cover and spine, else good in price-clipped, lightly rubbed dust jacket with pin-holes along front and rear flap folds. An elusive title. HOWES F258. RADER 1434.
