Publication: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1853, London
First edition. 8vo. Quarter red leather and decorated cloth, red front and rear endpapers, book listings printed in black on the front and rear pastedown sheets, titles stamped in gold gilt on the spine, teg, xii, 140 pp. plus 24 pp of advertisements, dedication, preface, introductory address, illustrated, 5 plates including the frontispiece, index, advertisements. The Spectator says: "Plain, well-arranged directions to the student in horsemanship, from mounting up to hunting, and to buying or breaking-in a horse. Every page shows the experienced horseman, who handles nothing but what is actually necessary, and to attain that disregards repetition or minuteness." A bit of cosmetic touch-up to the corners, a few pages lightly soiled and some with light foxing, else a very good copy of an elusive title housed in a cloth slipcase with a leather label on the spine and titles stamped in gold.
