The author came to Dallas in 1871, and was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1875. There is material on John Neely Bryan, the Peters Colony, Indian skirmishes, early Dallas County families, establishment of Dallas as a county seat, Navigation of the Trinity River from Dallas to Galveston, Reconstruction, Indian murder committed against citizens, the Grand Prairie fight in 1846, and much more. Raines' Bibliography of Texas says "With special reference to pioneer settlers." This is a cornerstone work on Dallas and Dallas County by a note Texas historian. Very light wear to the edges of the front cover, a small chip to the top corner of the rear cover, else the interior is clean and bright and a solid very good copy.
