Publication: Northland Press, 1978, Flagstaff

First edition. 8vo. Inscribed on the half title page by Babbitt: "To -- & -- / With our appreciation for your friendship & support / B Babbitt." Quarter leather and marbled paper over boards, burnt orange front and rear endpapers, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, xv [blank], 258 [1] pp., foreword, introduction, frontispiece, illustrated, plates, bibliography, index. Foreword by Dr. Robert C. Euler. A selection of outstanding writings compiled by then Governor Bruce E. Babbitt, the sixteenth governor of Arizona from 1978 to 1987 and as President Clinton's Secretary of the Interior from 1993 to 2001. The articles are written about a number of aspects of Grand Canyon. Contributions by Lieutenant Joseph C. Ives, John Wesley Powell, Edwin Corle, Mary Austin, Irvin Cobb, J. B. Priestley, Wallace Stegner, Haniel Long, Robert C. Euler, Theodore Roosevelt, Edward Abbey, Zane Grey, and others. Interestingly we can find no record of this binding with a slipcase. Most likely produced in a small edition for Governor Babbitt at the beginning of his term as Arizona governor. Fine, bright unread copy in the original fine slipcase. Mark Sanders, publisher of Northland Press, stated in a letter that 20 copies of this slip-cased version were produced, never offered for sale but were made for Bruce Babbitt, Bob Euler & other people involved with the book..
