First edition. 8vo. Maroon cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the front cover and spine, tan front and rear endpapers, frontispiece, illustrated. Emma Batchelor of England came to the United States at age 21 and subsequently married John D. Lee to become one of his wives. Brigham Young performed the ceremony on January 7, 1858. John D. Lee became the only person hanged for the Mountain Meadows massacre, and Emma Lee was one of three wives who stood by him to proclaim his innocence. Fine, bright copy in lightly rubbed, wrap-around art dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends and corners, and tiny nicks to the extremities. An interesting story from a fine writer and historian.
