One of their spies, a Dutch tapestry-maker, based at the court of Louis XIV, the Sun King, has disappeared and Daniel is told to find out what has happened to him. Rawson travels to France in disguise, and is delighted to find the tapestry-maker's beautiful daughter. Unaware of her father's espionage role, Amalia is fearful for her safety and further distressed by the sinister stranger she's noticed watching the house. It's up to Daniel to find her father and put Amalia's mind at rest. Meanwhile, back at camp, Rawson's courageous Sergeant Welbeck is left with problems of his own. His nephew has joined the army as a drummer boy in pursuit of honor and glory.
