"To Whom It May Concern Know Ye That Rabbit a prv of Captain H. Downing Company, (F,) 3rd Regiment of Indian Home Guard Volunteers who was enrolled on the eleventh day of July one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two to serve three years or during the war, is hereby Discharged from the service of the United States, this Thirty first (31) day of May, 1865, at Fort Gibson Cherokee Nation by reason of muster out per S.O.No.110 HdQrs Dept of Arkansas of 1865. Said Rabbit was born in old Cherokee Nation in the State of Georgia, is Thirty years of age, Five feet Five inches high, dark complexion, Black eyes, Black hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a Farmer. Given at Fort Gibson C. N., this Thirty first (31) day of May 1865." A light oval stamp and handwritten record of $100 having been "Paid in full this 25th day of June A.D. 1865 at Fort Gibson Cherokee Nation, on upper portion of document. An interesting Civil War and Native American document.
