A brief description of Dakota Territory is provided, with more detailed information provided of Southern Dakota, Central Dakota, the Missouri Slope, the Red River Valley, the Bad Lands, the public schools, the Black Hills, the Turtle Mountain region, the Sioux Indian Reservation, benevolent and penal institutions, the press of Dakota, the railroads of the territory, and brief descriptions of the counties which are listed in alphabetical order. Some interesting plates are provided including the state house at Bismarck, the insane asylum at Yankton, the Mandan passenger depot, and much more. There is much of railroad interest with many plates provided by various railroads and a number of advertisements by railroad companies. The large folding map is in fine condition and depicts Yankton, Mitchell, Watertown, Huron, Aberdeen, Deadwood, Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, and Devil's Lake districts. Lands open to settlement are in white, along with school lands, railroad grant, U. S. land offices, and Sioux reservation. Herd 1057 says "Scarce." Tiny library stamp and number on front cover, spine renewed with matching paper, chips to cover filled in with matching paperwear. Front wrapper fragile else very good copy. A substantial promotional work, with descriptions of every county.
