Publication: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1957, New York

First edition, second printing. 8vo. Inked gift inscription on the half title page by the author to noted Custer historian, Ron Nichols: "For Ron Nichols with best wishes / Happy Trails / David Humphreys Miller." Blue cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, map of the Little Big Horn battle on front and rear endpapers, xiii [3], 271 pp., preface, illustrations by the author, sources. The author interviewed 71 Indian participants in the Battle of Little Bighorn. These interviews and much additional research have resulted in this careful recounting of the Indian side of the famous battle. Testimony has been introduced by several Indian participants stating that Custer came down the hill attacking to the edge of the village and was killed there, not at the officially recognized location on the hill. Controversial and an outstanding and important work. Recommended. Ron Nichols' embossed name stamp at the bottom of the front free fly leaf and at the bottom of the title page, else a very good, tight copy in the elusive, price-clipped, rubbed dust jacket, lightly soiled on the rear cover, lightly sunned on the spine and with light wear to the spine ends, corners, and extremities.
