First edition. 5 1/4" x 3 1/4" pictorial wrappers, n. p. (14 pp.). An informative privately printed booklet with an introduction titled SUGGESTED ORGANIZATION OF THE XIT COWHANDS WAS CONCEIVED BY W.A. Askew of Amarillo, Texas. The booklet lists 258 former cowhands who worked on the XIT along with their cities of residence. The majority of the cowboys are from Texas with others being from Minnesota, California, Montana, Wyoming, Missouri, Oklahoma, New York, Nebraska, Arizona and Illinois. Of the 258 cowhands listed are 26 women (wives of former cowhands). The first reunion of the XIT cowhands was held on October 9, 1936, in Fort Worth, Texas. The city of Fort Worth and its citizens were very welcoming to the cowhands and extended many courtesies to the cowboys. The cowhands had a good time as they swapped stories, renewed acquaintances, attended a dance, and had a brief opportunity to be young again. The XIT organization was effected at Amarillo, Texas on the 23rd day of September, 1936, with a slate of eleven board names. The board members are listed along with their addresses and board responsibilities. A few penciled manuscript marks are made in the margin, else a very good copy of a scarce item. Not in Adams Herd with OCLC listing two holdings.
