First edition. 8vo. Original blind stamped cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, 335 pp., preface, illustrated, frontispiece (portrait of R. M. Collins). Lt. Collins was born in East Tennessee and moved to Texas, settling in Decatur. Early in 1862, he joined the Confederate Army and rose to the rank of lieutenant in Company B, 15th Texas Cavalry, Granbury's Brigade, Cleburne's Division. He fought at Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Nashville, etc. Collin's narrative is an especially good one, well-written, and informative. He was an excellent observer. In Tall Cotton 25: "A readable and authentic account of service in the western theater of war by a lieutenant of the 15th Texas Infantry." Former owner's inked name on front free fly leaf, else cloth lightly rubbed, and minor wear to the spine ends, else a very good, bright, tight copy. Housed in a 3/4 leather and marbled paper over boards clamshell case with raised bands an gilt titles on the spine
