Also includes early and well regarded information on western cattle ranching as well as careful and sympathetic passages on American Indian and local customs. A valuable first-hand account of the American and Canadian West just before and after the arrival of the railway. 12 1/2" x 25" folded map inserted at rear of book entitled, "Map of a Portion of the Rocky Mountains based on the Latest U.S. Government Survey. Additions by Wm. A. Baillie-Grohman. 1882." Tanning to page edges, 1/2" closed tear to edge of title page along with light wear to corners and edges of boards and 3" x 2 1/2" water mark to rear board. Very good.
