In the 1880s the five Babbitt brothers joined the westward migration and settled in the Flagstaff, Arizona area. They started as cattle ranchers, but soon diversified and built stores, operated trading posts, bought ranches, and sold lumber, among many endeavors, to create an economic empire that extended over the huge expanse of northern Arizona. But during the depression years their empire began to crack and some of their risks turned sour. In order to salvage the whole of their empire they had to sell off some of their precious ranchlands, retract their business enterprises, and sit by as others began to assume control of their operations. These moves saved them from ruin, but when the last brother died in 1956, an era died with him. Very fine in dust jacket.
