Publication: Circa Late 1920's, NP
First Editions. Original Pictorial Wrappers. 171 and 88pp. Portraits and plates. Adams Six Guns 1194: "Rare. A story of outlawry in Texas during the modern oil-boom days, with some information about Matthew Kimes." Volume 2. Adams Six Guns 1195: "Rare. A companion piece to the author's first book in which he continues to reveal the rotten conditions of the Texas oil field. His language is so plain and his accusations so pointed that both books were suppressed; hence their rarity." Borger was every bit the wild west town that Jones portrayed, being rife with bootlegging, prostitution, gambling, and murder. In addition, laid-in is a broadside advertising the book. "Read It and Weep! "BORGER" The Little Oklahoma"--16" wide x 18.5" long. Shows three large photographs of people in Borger and an image of the author, John P. (Slim) Jones. The text of the broadside is comprised of: "What The Fort Worth Star-Telegram Says About This Book--The Odyssey of a Driller in Extempore." and "What The Amarillo Globe Says About This Book--Driller Writes Book on Borger." The bottom of the broadside has been detached, but what was detached is unknown. The broadside seems complete in text and images. These books are rarely, if ever, offered together. The addition of the broadside makes this set highly desirable. A fine set protected in a handsome custom slipcase, with title and author in gilt on leather spine with raised bands.
