James "Jamie" Warren Stott was one of three men lynched in Arizona in 1888 during the Pleasant Valley Feud. Nearly half of this book is composed of actual letters to family members in Massachusetts from Jamie and others about his life and activities in the West. The other half is fictional dialogue in which Mr. Hanchett has taken the liberty of writing as if he were Jamie's sister, Hannah Stott Whitehead.
