Cloth, gold stamping on spine, dark endpapers, xxiv, 342 pp., foreword, introduction, illustrated, map, epilogue, appendix, bibliography, index. First book-length biography of Barney K. Riggs, 1856-1902. He was born in Arkansas, grew up near Salado, Texas, became a cattleman, was a deputy sheriff, a miner in Cochise County, Arizona, and eventually murdered a man and was sent to Yuma Territorial Prison. While in prison he saved the life of prison Superintendent Gates and was pardoned by the state governor for this deed. After prison he moved to Pecos, Texas, and became involved in the Rooney-Royal feud at Fort Stockton, later he killed two men in a saloon in Pecos, and then is killed in Fort Stockton by Buck Chadborn. In addition, there is much on Jim Miller and John Wesley Hardin, plus discussion of prominent cattlemen. The authors are relatives of Barney Riggs. Gene Riggs is his grandson and Ellis Lindsey is a first cousin, twice removed. As New in dust jacket.
