Publication: New York: The Macmillan Company, 1961,

First edition. Author's first book. EMMA LATHEN is the pseudonym for Mary J. Latsis, an economist, and Martha Henissart, a corporate finance and banking officer. Fine in dust jacket lightly sunned on the spine (but still pink). Introduces John Putnam Thatcher, Vice President of the Sloan Guarantee Trust, who while immersed in the problems of high finance finds himself in the hunt for a missing heir. His search took him to first a family in Massachusetts, then to a small corporation in Buffalo. Thatcher was determined to find his man, settle the estate, and get back to his market reports. Instead he found murder. An attractive copy of the author's scarce first book and a great story.

This copy from the library of MWA Grand Master Dorothy B. Hughes, with her signature on the front free flyleaf. Also laid-in is a review slip. An exceptional copy of a book that is very scarce in collectible condition.
