Revised edition of this Appletons' guidebook issued in 1898 and 1899 in response to the Klondike gold fever, with additional chapter by Ms. Sidmore on gold mining in the region. She presents summaries of the major routes, brief descriptions of Fort Reliance, Dawson City, Eagle City, and Forty Mile. Scidmore (1856-1928) was an intrepid traveler and journalist, and diplomat who had traveled with Captain Carroll on the steamship Idaho through Southeast Alaska, published the first Alaska travel guide, and details her experiences with Tlingit families, hunting, and by 1890 was the first woman to set in the Board of Managers for the National Geographic Society. Eliza Scidmore is perhaps best remembered as working with First Lady Helen Taft to plant cherry trees to beautify Washington, D.C. and celebrated by visitors every year.
