First edition. Two volumes. 8vo. Cloth, 450 pp. & 368 pp., uncut. Graff 2691 says "An attempt, based on the research of twenty five years to expose the myth that Whitman saved Oregon." Volume I provides a very good early history of Oregon. The majority of Volume II addresses the contention of the author and many others, that Marcus Whitman had minimal influence on the success of the United States' claim to the Oregon Country in its dispute with England.
