"Published by the Department of War, under the Authority of an Act of Congress of the 2d of March, 1829." Prepared and issued "to secure uniformity of instruction and practice between the infantry of the militia and that of the regular army". "The Abstract...is deemed complete within itself for the instruction of any corps less than a brigade". This detailed work is divided into 4 primary sections: School of the Soldier, School of the Company, School of the Battalion, Exercises and Maneuvers for Light-Infantry and Riflemen, and Parade and Review. Loss of the corner of pages 135 & 136 with the loss of a portion of 6 lines of text. Light damp staining to endpapers and light-moderate foxing throughout. Very good in what appears to be an original full leather binding or an early 18th century rebinding, in very nice condition for nearly 200 years of age.
