First Edition. 12mo. Original Green Cloth, Gilt stamped spine, brown endpapers, xii, 13-284 pp., Prologue, Illustrated, large folding map, appendices. A classic account of the building of forts along the Bozeman Trail in Wyoming. The author accompanied her husband, Colonel Henry B. Carrington to Wyoming in 1866, where he commanded Fort Phil Kearny at the time of the Fetterman Massacre. Graff 596 says, "An excellent personal account fortified by invaluable additional material from the author's husband, Colonel Henry B. Carrington." "Much on the geography of Wyoming Territory, Indians and Indian fights, the weather, Indian treaties, Fort Phil Kearny, and the Fetterman Massacre."--O'Keefe 317. This is the original binding and there is absolutely no evidence of a map having been disbound or removed. Previous owner's name stamped on front free-endpaper. Some very slight edgewear, else a clean, bright, tight copy in original cloth. Bright gilt imprint on spine. Very slightly cocked, else very good-near fine.
