Knieff during the 1863 Sibley Expedition to the Missouri River in pursuit of hostile Dakota Indians. This important work presents the daily journal of Private Arthur M. Daniels from June 15 through September 12, 1863 as a participant in Brigadier General H.H. Sibley's Expedition in search and pursuit of hostile Dakota Indians through Minnesota and the Dakota Territory. The punitive expedition was in response to the Dakota Uprising of 1862 during which the Indians massacred many hundreds of innocent and defenseless settlers in the Minnesota River Valley.
