Publication: 1914, Santa Fe
Second Edition. Stiff Pictorial Wrappers. 519pp. Frontispiece Portrait, plus 19 Plates. Siringo was a detective with the Pinkerton agency for 22 years, and this is his account of adventures among "moonshiners, cattle thieves, tramps, dynamiters and other strong-arm men." Its publication was delayed because of legal objections by the Pinkerton agency. The hard cover edition of 1912 was nowhere near sold out when Siringo, who had possession of the printing plates, arranged for a paperback edition to be printed with the Santa Fe imprint. On the front cover Siringo added rather prominently a sub-title, "Twenty-Two Years With Pinkerton's National Detective Agency", notwithstanding the agency's injunction against using the name. It was a small but conspicuous act of nose thumbing and the Pinkerton's let Siringo get away with it. A very scarce and desirable edition of this Siringo classic. Some minor light wear and a crease to lower fore-corner of front wrapper. An exceptionally bright, clean, tight copy of this work. Very good-near fine. Protected in a handsome, custom half-leather slipcase, with title, author, and place & year of publication in gilt on spine.
