"To my good old pal of frontier days, when we dodged the 'Kid' down on the Rio Bonita, after shooting it out with his gang. E. A. Brininstool ('Buckskin Pete'), Los Angeles, Apl 15/33, to L. H. Spragle, Cresco, PA." A facsimile letter appears on page xl from John W. Poe to E. A. Brininstool, dated March 5, 1923, in which Poe advises Brininstool as to the actual time and date that the "Kid" was killed. Cloth, xl (4), 60 pp., frontis. (portrait of Billy the Kid), introduction, illustrated, epilogue. A deputy sheriff under Pat Garrett, Poe urged Garrett to investigate a report that Billy the Kid was at Ft. Sumner. He was present when Garrett killed the Kid. Lincoln County War expert Maurice Fulton provides an excellent introduction. Cloth lightly mottled on front and rear covers else a near fine, bright copy in the very scarce dust jacket that has light wear at the spine ends, spine panel a bit darkened, and a tiny hole (pin head size) at top edge of front panel. Housed in a cloth, clamshell case with the design of the dust jacket's front and rear panel duplicated on the case. Sharp copy. SIX GUNS 1741. KID 192.
