4-3/4" x 8-1/2" original cream colored invoice dated October 11, 1873. Printed in red text from J.O. Dorr's Improved Axle Grease. Established in 1826, J.O. Dorr’s Son sold electric light illuminating oil, axle grease, railroad signal oils, and lubricating oils, as well as paints. Shown on the invoice is their red Wagon Wheel logo. Printed includes the following and more: "Bought of J.O. Dorr's Son, Manufacturer, Commission and Wholesale Dealer in Paints, Oils, Varnishes & Colors, Rail Road, Machinery, Sperm, Whale, Lard and Other Oils; 339 Greenwich and 21 Jay Sts. General Agent for the New and Improved Kerosene Oil Safes." This original invoice is for the purchase of Sweet Gasoline some 15 years before the advent of the American automobile. It also includes the price and terms. Light soiling else an interesting piece of history.
